Medal of Bravery
An armed robbery occurred at a credit union on West Broadway St., in Vancouver on January 5, 1968. Cst. Stanley Blackstock who was patrolling the area in a police car heard a broadcast of the incident. He observed a car leaving the vicinity of the holdup and gave chase, pursuing the car down a dead-end street. Finding his way blocked, the suspect ran towards the police car, gun in hand. Cst. Blackstock getting out of his car ordered the man to drop his weapon but, as Cst. Blackstock drew his revolver, the suspect shot him in the chest. The constable returning the fire, wounded his assailant five times. Although seriously wounded himself, Police Cst. Blackstock kept up radio contact with the police dispatcher informing him about the suspect and his escape. The assailant was apprehended a short time later.
