On February 19, 1995, Mr. Sheridan risked his life to save an elderly woman from the frigid waters of the Seton Lake Canal, near the village of Lillooet, British Columbia. The woman had accidentally slipped into the canal and was being carried downstream towards the opening of the nearby hydroelectric dam. A passing motorist, Mr. Sheridan dove into the cold and swift flowing waters and swam approximately twenty-five metres to where the floundering victim was caught on the chain of a log boom. He pulled her along the slippery boom, all the while fighting the current, and eventually regained the shore. Mr. Sheridan managed to drive to the hospital, where they were both treated for hypothermia.
