On the night of September 18, 1987, Mr. Charles James Spillane's (then MCpl.) calm and quick actions saved the life of an auto accident victim on Highway 121, in Haliburton County, Ontario. Mr. Spillane witnessed the car hit a rock cut, burst into flames and roll over. Having stopped his vehicle, he went to the car and observed a man whose legs had started burning. Breaking a rear window, he climbed in and pulled the victim out.
