On September 9, 1990, at Riverview Raceways in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Donald Gale Kettering rescued a fellow stock-car driver whose vehicle had been hit by a number of other racing cars and flipped upside down. Mr. Kettering stopped his car upon seeing the accident and, despite the oncoming cars, went to the wreck, whose fuel tank had ignited, to pull the victim out. The victim was wedged under the roll-cage but Mr. Kettering succeeded in pulling him out through the window and extinguishing the flames from his clothing and skin.
