On March 10, 1989, Mr. Godin helped victims of a plane crash at Dryden, Ontario. After extricating his wife and children from the debris, he evacuated the remaining survivors from that section of the plane. He then circled the aircraft and, despite his fuel-soaked clothing and the spreading flames, went back into the wreckage several times to help others. Before the plane was completely engulfed, he also tried to search for survivors in the cockpit. Mr. Godin then continued to provide assistance to survivors gathered outside the wreckage.
