On July 16, 1996, Clayton Rousseau pulled his unconscious brother from an oxygen-deprived well in Coronach, Saskatchewan. The man had been performing maintenance work when he lost consciousness and collapsed while trying to shut off a valve. Fearing for his brother's life, Mr. Rousseau rushed down the two meters that separated him from the victim. Aware that he could succumb to the same fate, he grabbed his brother and struggled up the ladder carrying his limp body. The narrow well casing was less than a meter wide making the escape extremely difficult. Despite the danger, Mr. Rousseau persevered until he succeeded in extricating his brother from the well. Once outside, the man regained consciousness.
