Visit to the Citadelle and the City of Québec

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, travelled to the city of Québec, marking her last visit to the Citadelle as Governor General.

For the first time during her mandate, Governor General Mary Simon awarded the Polar Medal to two outstanding individuals - Dr. Lackenbauer and Dr. Parenteau. The ceremony took place at the Residence of the Governor General at the Citadelle of Québec.

Recognized for their exceptional contributions, these individuals advance knowledge and exploration of the polar regions while helping to strengthen Canada’s northern sovereignty and Arctic security.

Their work continues to leave a lasting impact on Canada and the North.

This medal honours extraordinary service to Arctic communities and to expanding our understanding of Canada’s North.

Today at the Citadelle, 41 members of the Canadian Armed Forces were invested into the Order of Military Merit for their distinctive merit and exceptional service. 

At the event, 1 Commanders (C.M.M.), 8 Officers (O.M.M.) and 32 Members (M.M.M.) were invested into the Order.

Over the last three days, Governor General Mary Simon joined leaders from across sectors of Canada at the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference in the City of Québec. 

Through engagement, listening and understanding, they explored the key issues shaping Canada’s path forward.

In Wendake, Quebec, Governor General Mary Simon met with the Governor General’s Advisory Group on Reconciliation (GGAGR) one last time. 

Providing strategic advice and guidance on reconciliation efforts and activities, the GGAGR advises the Governor General and the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General. 

Through ongoing dialogue and action, this work contributes to Canada’s ongoing journey toward reconciliation.
