Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, presented 31 Decorations for Bravery during a ceremony at Rideau Hall.
The Decorations for Bravery are among Canada’s most prestigious civilian honours. The Decorations for Bravery offer three levels of recognition: the Cross of Valour (C.V.), the Star of Courage (S.C.), and the Medal of Bravery (M.B.). Three Stars of Courage and 28 Medals of Bravery were awarded during the ceremony.
No one ever plans to receive these decorations. You receive them because you acted with courage.
About the Decorations for Bravery
In 1972, Queen Elizabeth II established a series of medals recognizing courageous acts. Over the last 50 years, governors general have awarded Decorations for Bravery to nearly 4 000 recipients—from Canada and abroad, civilians and uniformed personnel, living and deceased—in recognition of acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances that range from potential drownings and vehicle accidents to animal attacks and burning buildings.
