WAVES 2025: Global Indigenous Languages Summit

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, attended morning sessions and delivered remarks at the WAVES 2025: Global Indigenous Languages Summit. Her Excellency’s participation highlighted her strong commitment to the revitalization of Indigenous languages, a key priority within her overarching mandate of advancing reconciliation.

Organized by the Office of the Commissioner of Indigenous Languages, the inaugural summit, held from August 11-14, aimed to promote, celebrate and champion Indigenous languages in Canada and around the globe.

The need to protect and revitalize Indigenous languages is urgent.
