Medal of Bravery
On July 4, 1994, Karll and Jean-Philippe Gilbert, along with Messrs. Carrière, Romain and Thibeault, helped save a boy who had been swept away by the current of the Noire River, in St-Ephrem d'Upton, Quebec. When they saw the boy fall into the river, Karll and Jean-Philippe Gilbert immediately jumped in to try to save him. While an exhausted Jean-Philippe returned to shore to seek help, Karll, who was now struggling himself, kept the victim's head above water. Mr. Carrière, who was working nearby with Messrs. Romain and Thibeault, tried to reach the two victims, but quickly realized that the current was too strong. With the help of a cable and log, Messrs. Carrière, Romain and Thibeault managed to catch hold of them, and everyone made it back to shore to wait for the ambulance.
