A highly regarded historian and public figure, he served as one of the most effective LieutenantGovernors of New Brunswick, enhancing the dignity and knowledge of the Office and people'srespect for it. At the age of eighty-seven his love of country, his loyalty, his enthusiasm and hisscholarship continue to shine as he pursues an active schedule of writing and communityinvolvement. This is a promotion within the Order.

Awarded on December 15, 1976; Invested on April 20, 1977

Former Director of Canadian Studies at Mount Allison University. An educator and historian whose writings on the Canadian West and on Military history have won him an eminent place in scholarship.
