During his visit to the Centro de Jóvenes y Empleo, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, received the civic medal from His Worship Adolfo Ocampo Varga, Mayor of San Juan Miraflores (right).

The Centro de Jóvenes y Empleo is supported by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) through a Cuso project that aims to help disadvantaged youth between the ages of 15-29 develop vocational and entrepreneurial abilities and leadership skills.
Their Excellencies then met with Cuso staff to discuss the successes and challenges of a Canada-funded project at the centre and to learn about the context and economic realities of many Peruvian youth.
During their visit, Their Excellencies also had the opportunity to engage with Canadian volunteers.
His Excellency then heard from beneficiaries on how the services offered at the centre have changed their lives.
His Excellency told youth about his ceremonial kick-off at the 100th Grey Cup Championship Game in Toronto on November 25, 2012.

His Excellency then visited SENCICO, a national training service for the construction industry that offers programs in geomatics.
His Excellency learned how Canadian geomatics technology and knowledge was transferred to the Peruvian technical school through an alliance with the Cégep de Limoilou, in Québec, and with the support of CIDA via the Association of Canadian Community Colleges.
Following a presentation by a student who took part in an exchange program in Québec conducted a demonstration of a computer program developed through a partnership with a private sector company, the Governor General went around the classroom to exchange with the other students.
Her Excellency Sharon Johnston visited the Centro Ann Sullivan del Perú, an educational non-for-profit centre that serves individuals with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy or developmental delays, as well as their families.
Mrs. Liliana Mayo, Director General of Centro Ann Sullivan del Perú (right) gave a tour to Her Excellency and introduced her to a few mothers who are helped by the centre.
Her Excellency danced with mothers who benefit from the services offered at the centre.
Her Excellency also played with children. The centre provides a comprehensive education system that includes programs designed to assist students throughout their lives.
The centre shares a special bond with Canada, having received funding from the Rotary Club of Sudbury.
