Centennial of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission

June 12, 2017

Governor General to Attend the Centennial
of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission

OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will attend the ceremony marking the centennial of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) at the Canadian War Museum on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at
4:50 p.m.

On this occasion, the Governor General, along with CWGC member government representatives, will lay a wreath in Memorial Hall. His Excellency will then deliver a speech in the LeBreton Gallery.

About the Commonwealth War Graves Commission
The CWGC was founded in 1917 with the mission of commemorating in perpetuity the 1.7 million Commonwealth servicemen and women who died in the two world wars. No distinction is made on account of military or civil rank, race or creed. The CWGC cares for war graves, cemeteries and memorials at a staggering 23 000 locations in 154 countries. It is funded by six member governments—the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Canada and India—in proportion to their losses. For more information, visit www.cwgc.org
