Governor General to Celebrate Canadian Excellence in Toronto

OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will visit Toronto on September 14 and 15, 2016. In Toronto, the Governor General will celebrate Canadian excellence by presenting the insignia of Member of the Order of Canada to Eli Kassner and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award to young people from across Canada. He will also be honoured with the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service.

Presentation of the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service to the Governor General
His Excellency will be presented with the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service. The Wilson Center’s Canada Institute presents this award to individuals who have served with distinction in public life and who have shown a special commitment to seeking out informed opinions and thoughtful views. For more information, visit www.wilsoncenter.org/canada.

Presentation of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award of Achievement
The Governor General will present The Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award to more than 60 young people from across Canada.

The Duke of Edinburgh International Award’s three levels—Bronze, Silver and Gold—encourage youth between the ages of 14 and 24 to pursue activities in four areas: community service, physical fitness, skills development and outdoor exploration.
