Launch of the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC)
Rideau Hall, Thursday, September 3, 2015
CHECK AGAINST DELIVERY
Good morning, everyone, and welcome!
This is an anniversary of sorts: the fifth year in a row that we’ve launched this great campaign at Rideau Hall!
It’s very appropriate that we do so.
One of the things we do a lot at Rideau Hall is celebrate the achievements of Canadians, and this campaign is most worthy of celebration.
Think about the example that’s being set—the example that you’re setting as public servants giving back to your communities and to our country.
Already, Canada’s public service represents our values. Values that include respect for democracy. For people. Integrity. Stewardship. Excellence.
To that list we can add the value of caring for the well-being of others.
The success of this campaign over the years is proof that public servants care, that you and your colleagues want to give back and help.
In this, you are part of a truly wonderful wave of giving that is sweeping right across Canada.
Some of you may have heard of the My Giving Moment campaign. Its goal is simple: we want to encourage Canadians to share their stories, to discover how good it feels to give, to get hooked on giving so that we continue to be a generous and caring nation.
Now, you are the leaders of the government’s campaign, so you’re probably already hooked on giving—and if you’re not, you soon will be!
Sure, there may be times when it feels like hard work, like a thankless task, like you’d rather be doing something else.
But the impact you’re having is remarkable.
You’re helping real people, and you’re changing the culture of your communities and of Canada for the better.
You’re all such wonderful examples of public servants!
I’m so proud to be serving the public, and to be patron of United Way/Centraide Canada.
I want to thank all of you for everything that you’re doing, for your help and your generosity during this campaign.
Even a small contribution can go a long way to supporting someone in a time of need, and to reminding them that there are people out there who care.
So thank you for being among those people.
Thank you for being such caring Canadians, and for being here today to help launch this important charitable campaign.
I wish you a very successful journey.
