Skating Rink

The skating rink at Rideau Hall was originally built in 1872, during the mandate of the Earl of Dufferin, Canada’s third governor general. Along with his wife, Lady Dufferin—who quickly became a keen skater herself—he organized many skating parties during his stay at Rideau Hall. Today, you can step back in time and go for a skate on this historic rink.

On the occasion of Canada’s 150th birthday, the skating experience at Rideau Hall will be enhanced. Stay tuned for more information.

Schedule

The skating season on the Rideau Hall outdoor rink will be open from January 28 to March 26, 2017, weather permitting.

Public skating is possible Saturdays and Sundays, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. without reservations. Due to construction at Rideau Hall, all skaters must enter on-site via the Princess Gate (located at 101 Princess Avenue).

The schedule may vary at any given time during the season and we recommend you consult our website for ice conditions.

Group Reservation

It is possible to reserve a skating period for groups on weekdays and on weekend evenings.

As of December 12, remaining available spots will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. Our goal is to allow as many people as possible to use the skating rink during peak reservation times.

To make a reservation or for additional information regarding the skating rink or other programming at Rideau Hall, please call 1-866-842-4422 or email guide@gg.ca.

How to Reserve

Skating Rink Reservation Procedures

Reservations for the Rideau Hall skating rink will be allocated through a random draw. Completed request forms will be accepted until Friday December 2, 2016 at 4 p.m. The draw and allocation of reservations will take place from December 5 to December 9, 2016. Those selected will be notified by email or by telephone to confirm their reservation. From the time that the notification is sent, you have 48 hours to respond, in order to complete the reservation process. Please note that if we do not receive confirmation from you in this time period, you will lose your reservation and it will be offered to someone else.

As of December 12, those spots still available will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. Our goal is to allow as many people as possible to use the skating rink during peak reservation times.

Please be sure to indicate your first and second dates of choice on your request form. If your first choice cannot be accommodated, we will add your request to the draw for the alternate date. Only one request form will be accepted per group, per season.
