2011 Canada Army Run
OTTAWA—Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will lace up their running shoes this weekend for this year’s Canada Army Run, being held on Sunday, September 18, 2011, in Ottawa.
At 7:30 a.m., His Excellency will address all athletes competing in the five-kilometre run, and will also cheer on his wife at the starting line. At 8:40 a.m., the Governor General will wish all athletes competing in the half marathon ‘good luck’, and join them in this 21-kilometre challenge.
Their Excellencies are pleased to have the opportunity to show their support for Canadian Forces members and their families. They strongly believe in the values of physical fitness, and share their love of being active with their own children and grandchildren.
About Canada Army Run
Canada Army Run is a unique event in which Canadians run, walk, or roll side-by-side with members of the Canadian Forces in 5K and half-marathon events. Launched in 2008 by 7 000 participating runners, the event’s fundraising efforts benefit Canadian Forces Personnel Support programs, which include Soldier On and the Military Families Fund.
