The Residence of the Governor General at the Citadelle of Québec is located in the heart of the city's historic quarter. Whether you’re visiting on your own, bringing your family, or are part of a group, come explore this outstanding residence with its breathtaking views and striking collection of Canadian art, objects and furnishings, both historic and contemporary. You will also learn more about the central role of the governor general in Canada's public life. You can combine the Tour of the Residence with a Tour of the Cap-aux-Diamants Redoubt.
Visit the State rooms where Canadians are honoured and dignitaries are welcomed. Throughout the residence, tribute is paid to Canadian artists. Visitors can admire such paintings as Les 24 heures de l'Isle-aux-Oyes, by the renowned Jean Paul Riopelle; a collection of Inuit sculptures; and a superb heritage treasure, the Grant de Longueuil Epergne, a silver table centrepiece created in 1759.

Visit one of Canada’s oldest military buildings and its three magnificent vaults. The visit includes a guided tour of the Redoubt and free time to explore the exhibits, which recall the history of this remarkable defence works and the origins of the oldest public office in Canada, that of the governor general. Don’t miss Le Grand Livre de Champlain, set in a metal binding with pages two metres high, that takes us back to Samuel de Champlain’s voyages to New France.

Useful Information
- All guided tours are free.
- Please go to the Dalhousie Gate to obtain a free ticket.
- Visitors must walk to the residence from the Dalhousie Gate. For persons with a disability, the residence can be accessed by car or mini-bus, by reservation only.
- Because the Citadelle is an active military base, it is only accessible to visitors accompanied by a guide.
- There are wheelchairs, washrooms, public telephones, water fountains, rest areas, a boutique and vending machines on-site or nearby.

How to Get to the Citadelle
- The governor general's residence is located within the Citadelle of Québec, which sits atop Cape Diamant.
- Access is via the Côte de la Citadelle, near the St. Louis Gate.

Parking
- Cars: Parking is available on-site for a two-hour period. Buses are not permitted.
- Buses: Drivers are asked to let their passengers off at the entrance to the Citadelle.
