OTTAWA—Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond are pleased to welcome to Rideau Hall the exhibition DIASPORArt: Strategy and Seduction by Canadian Artists from Culturally Diverse Communities in Works from the Collection of the Canada Council Art Bank. Through their works in the exhibition, artists of African, Asian, Middle Eastern or Latin American origin compare their cultural heritage with Western society and its values.
The exhibition of 18 works showcases the intermingling of cultures in Canada. Each piece reflects the cultural diversity that characterizes the Canadian people, while exploring current trends in the visual arts. The artists present their own identities by challenging the status quo of Western popular culture as it is thought of and depicted by the dominant international cultural current. For more information on the exhibition, please visit http://www.gg.ca/document.aspx?id=94&lan=eng.
Visitors can view the temporary exhibition in the Ambassadors’ Room during guided tours of the residence. For more information on the tour schedule, log onto http://www.gg.ca/document.aspx?id=164&lan=eng.
