How to Get to the Residence (Québec)

The governor general’s residence is located within the Citadelle of Québec atop Cape Diamant. Because the Citadelle is an active military base, visitors are not allowed to walk freely to the residence. They must be accompanied by a guide at all times.

On foot

You may enter via the Côte de la Citadelle, near the St. Louis Gate. Once inside the Citadelle, turn left and walk towards the Dalhousie Gate, where you will be greeted by a guide.

By car

You may enter via the Côte de la Citadelle, near the St. Louis Gate. Once inside the Citadelle, turn right. Parking is free for two hours. From the parking lot, walk a few minutes towards the Dalhousie Gate, where you will be greeted by a guide.

By bus (groups only)
The Citadelle is not accessible by bus. Drivers are asked to drop their passengers off at the Citadelle entrance, and go to a parking spot available for buses (in French only). It takes approximately five minutes from the bus lay-by to the residence.

Visitors with Reduced Mobility

The residence is accessible by car, taxi or small bus. Please contact us by phone at 418-648-4322 or 1-866-936-4422 to let us know the date and time of your arrival so that we may authorize your access to the residence. There are a few wheelchairs available onsite.
