Message from the Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada on the occasion of Canadian Armed Forces Day

June 4, 2023

As governor general and commander-in-chief, I am honoured to mark Canadian Armed Forces Day. Today, I join Canadians across the country in thanking both past and present members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), as well as their families, for their dutiful service and dedication to our nation.

I have always admired our troops. I have family members who have chosen to serve and I work alongside CAF members who support me in my duties every day. The professionalism I have witnessed from our service members both at home and abroad since the beginning of my mandate has been nothing short of inspirational. I offer my respect and appreciation to all those who so capably serve our country, and to all members who continue the hard work of ensuring equality and respect for all who join and work in our armed forces.

Let us not forget the great sacrifices that our Armed Forces have made and continue to make in defence of the values we cherish. And we honour the memories of those who have lost their lives serving Canada. We owe them and their families an immeasurable debt of gratitude.

Through history and hardship, the CAF have been there for our country.  On this Canadian Armed Forces Day, I salute everyone who has ever worn a uniform in service to Canada.
