Symbolism

This is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) corps ensign with the addition of the shield and spur. Red, blue and gold are the colours of the RCMP uniform. The bison’s head within a wreath of maple leaves and ensigned by the Royal Crown is a version of the badge of the RCMP. The spur is an important item of equipment for mounted police officers, and the shield is in the shape of the identification badge carried by RCMP officers. The maple leaf rowel indicates that members and employees of the RCMP come from every part of Canada. Together they represent the past service of members and employees of the RCMP who are now veterans, as well as the active role they continue to play in the organization and in their communities.
