Old Québec Educational packages

These turnkey packages, offered to school groups in partnership with the Residence of the Governor General at the Citadelle and Parks Canada, consist of a fun and educational half-day with three facilitated activities.

Soldiers and Governors Activity Package

Duration: Approximately 3 hours
Age group: Grades 3 to 6

On Her Excellency’s Secret Service – Mission: New France (Grades 3 and 4) / Mission: Responsible Government (Grades 5 and 6)

Location: Residence of the Governor General at the Citadelle

This activity is based on the famous Clue™ board game and helps students explore the State rooms of the residence in search of clues to solve a mystery. These educational, interactive and fun missions have been designed to complement lessons students learn in class, in accordance with various provincial curricula.

Private Vadeboncoeur’s Great Game

Location: Saint-Louis Forts and Châteaux National Historic Site

Soldiers, attention! Experience life as Private Vadeboncoeur lived it, visit the soldiers’ barracks and take part in a battle re‑enactment. At the end of this activity, your students will be able to name the various parts of the fortifications and decipher the many codes found on the cannons.

Guided Thematic Tour

A guided thematic tour between these two locations is also included in the package.

 

Governors’ Stories Activity Package

Duration: Approximately 3 hours
Age group: Secondary I and II / Grades 7 to 9

Location: Residence of the Governor General at the Citadelle

This activity is based on the famous Clue™ board game and helps students explore the State rooms of the residence in search of clues to solve a mystery. This educational, interactive and fun mission has been designed to complement lessons students learn in class, in accordance with various provincial curricula.

Wigs and Dignity

Location: Saint-Louis Forts and Châteaux National Historic Site

Wearing wigs and hats, students will experience social life during the French period and learn about the importance of social ranks during this period of history through a role-playing game that combines history and humour. In addition to learning more about the roles of the governor, the intendant and the bishop, students will explore the remains of the Saint-Louis Forts and Châteaux alongside the governor general (costumed staff) and a Parks Canada guide.

A guided thematic tour between these two locations is also included in the package.
