To mark the 50th anniversary of the Order of Canada and to celebrate the individuals whose outstanding contributions have made our country a nation of service, innovation and excellence, the Royal Canadian Mint is producing a limited-edition fine silver collector coin.
Since 2012, a new generation of Order of Canada insignia has been produced by the Mint, using innovative technology and modernized processes while honouring a tradition of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
This is the first time that the insignia of the Order has ever been replicated on a coin. The reverse presents a faithful recreation of the insignia of Companion of the Order. Like the insignia itself, the coin is struck in 99.99 per cent fine silver; the application of colour on this numismatic piece also reproduces the complex and colourful enamelling of the iconic snowflake, Royal Crown and red maple leaf. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Sovereign of the Order of Canada, designed by Susanna Blunt.
The Order of Canada collector coin was released on June 27, 2017, and is part of the Mint’s Canadian Honours collection. For more information on availability, visit www.mint.ca.
