Rideau Hall to welcome the Olympic Flame on Saturday December 12, 2009: Everyone is invited to witness this Olympic moment!

OTTAWA—The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General is pleased to announce that the Olympic flame will be at Rideau Hall, in Ottawa, on Saturday, December 12, 2009, from 12:55 p.m. to 1:05 p.m.

The public will be able to witness the Olympic Torch Relay as it makes its way to the official residence of the Governor General of Canada. For this special occasion, free hot chocolate will be served and tours of the residence will be offered from 1:15 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Olympic Torch Relay will take place outside, snow, rain or shine. Street parking is available in the surrounding neighbourhood. 

At the request of the Prime Minister of Canada, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will open the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, on February 12 and March 12, respectively.
