Today, we remember the more than 22,000 Canadians who have lost their lives since the beginning of the pandemic. This is a devastating number—each one a loved one lost. Each one a Canadian whose contributions we will sorely miss. We mourn with those who are grieving, and our thoughts go out to the Canadians who have contracted COVID-19 in the past year, including those who are still sick and who are struggling with long-term complications.
While this year has brought better news about increased vaccine distribution, we will never forget the year that was—a year like no other.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank the front-line and essential workers who have been instrumental in keeping us safe and healthy. Finally, I would like to salute every single Canadian for adapting so well over the past year.
Please take care of yourselves and your families.
