Visit to Northern Manitoba

The Governor General visits northern Manitoba from September 25 to 27, 2019. During this visit, she is stopping in Churchill, Cranberry Portage and Flin Flon. 

In Churchill, the Governor General learned about the rich history and environmental challenges of the north by visiting the Parks Canada Interpretation Centre, the Churchill Northern Studies Centre and Cape Merry. She also met members of the community by speaking to students participating the international youth summit and at the Duke of Marlborough School. In the evening she invited the community to play a friendly game of bowling.

In Cranberry Portage, Her Excellency talked to students about her role as governor general and her experience in space. She also visited the Cranberry Portage Heritage Museum to learn about the rich history in this community. In Flin Flon, the Governor General participated in Culture Days at Hapnot Collegiate and a canoe excursion with students. She also participated in a community dinner hosted by the City of Flin Flon.

On the Governor General’s second day in Flin Flon, she went on a walk around Ross Lake with members of the community as part of GGActive. She also visited Hudbay Minerals Inc. to learn about their mining operations.
