At the request of the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, the Governor General visited Lithuania and Estonia. To strengthen the people-to-people ties and promote various aspects of Canada abroad, the Governor General was accompanied by an official delegation.
November 25, 2019
Upon arrival in Lithuania, the Governor General met with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda. The Governor General then delivered a presentation and took part in a panel discussion with members of the Canadian delegation and Lithuanian experts to explore the ingredients required to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in society.
November 26, 2019
On the second day in Lithuania, the Governor General delivered a presentation to students about her experience as an astronaut at Santaka Valley Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) Science, Technology and Business Centre. Afterwards, the Canadian delegation visited Trakai Castle to learn more about Lithuania’s heritage.
November 27, 2019
The Governor General travelled to Estonia where she met with Her Excellency Kersti Kaljulaid, President of the Republic of Estonia. Together they visited a classroom where students program Micro:bit computers using laptops. The Governor General then met with His Excellency Jüri Ratas, Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia. Afterwards, the Governor General met with His Excellency Henn Põlluaas, President of the Parliament of the Republic of Estonia.
November 28, 2019
On the last day of the visit, the Governor General visited the e-Estonia Briefing Centre to learn about e-services offered by the Government of Estonia. Afterwards, Her Excellency participated in a discussion at the NATO CCDCOE and at the Estonia Academy of Science.
