Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, presided over a Governor General's Foot Guards Change of Command Ceremony.

About the Governor General's Foot Guards

The Governor General's Foot Guards (GGFG) is a primary reserve infantry battalion raised on June 7, 1872 in Ottawa. They have been supporting the governor general and participating in official events at Rideau Hall since the year the regiment was formed. Every summer, the GGFG perform the Changing the Guard ceremony and post sentries at Rideau Hall. Mobilized for the Second World War in 1939, and later allocated to the 4th Division, the unit was converted to armour in 1942, for the remainder of the war. Post-war, the regiment reverted to its infantry origins and today serves as a component of 33 Canadian Brigade Group, in Ottawa.
