Ceremony Commemorating the Polytechnique Tragedy

December 6, 2019

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, took part in the ceremony commemorating the Polytechnique tragedy, held at the Mount Royal Chalet.

To keep alive the memory of the 14 young women killed on December 6, 1989, the Comité Mémoire, in collaboration with the City of Montréal and Polytechnique Montréal, invited the public to attend this gathering.

At 5:10 p.m., the exact time that the first shots were fired on December 6, 1989, 14 light beams (designed by Moment Factory) lit up the Montréal skyline above Mount Royal. As the names of each of the 14 victims were said aloud, a beam of light was lit in their honour.
