Governor General to Celebrate
National Flag Day of Canada

OTTAWA—Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, will celebrate National Flag Day at a ceremony taking place at the Canada 150 skating rink on Parliament Hill on Thursday, February 15, at 12 p.m.

The event will kick off with a performance by the Starlight synchronized skating team, followed by brief remarks from Her Excellency and the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage.

In honour of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities will be joined by two Special Olympics athletes to raise the Canadian flag.

About National Flag of Canada Day
On February 15, 1965, our national flag was raised for the first time on Parliament Hill; subsequently, in 1996, February 15 was declared National Flag of Canada Day. Every year since, we have celebrated our beautiful flag. For more information, visit
