Governor General of Canada to Welcome
Her Excellency Michelle Bachelet, President of the Republic of Chile
OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will welcome Her Excellency Michelle Bachelet, President of the Republic of Chile, to Rideau Hall, on Monday, June 5, 2017, on the occasion of her State visit to Canada.

Monday June 5
Official Welcoming Ceremony
An official welcoming ceremony, with military honours, will be held at Rideau Hall. The President of the Republic of Chile will conduct an inspection of a guard of honour.

In honour of the President’s visit to Canada, Their Excellencies will host a State luncheon at Rideau Hall. The Governor General and the President will deliver remarks on this occasion.

Ceremonial Tree Planting
The President will plant a tree on the grounds of Rideau Hall to commemorate her State visit to Canada. The tree will be an Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis), that will serve as a living symbol of the close ties between Canada and Chile.
Over 140 commemorative trees grace the grounds of Rideau Hall, the official residence of the governor general of Canada. They mark visits by members of the Royal Family, heads of State and other dignitaries.
