Governor General to Visit Halifax

OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will be in Halifax on Saturday, May 13, 2017.

During the visit, His Excellency and co-author Tom Jenkins will present their new book Ingenious at Dalhousie University. The Governor General will also speak at The Walrus Talks Conversations About Canada: We Desire a Better Country, as part of the national tour’s Halifax stop.

Below is His Excellency’s detailed itinerary. All timings indicated are in local time zone.

Saturday, May 13

12 p.m.
Ingenious On-Stage Conversation
During an on-stage conversation hosted by Richard Florizone, President of Dalhousie University, the Governor General and Mr. Jenkins will speak about their book, Ingenious. The conversation will be followed by a question period and a book-signing session. The event will be streamed live online at http://dal.ca/livestream

Published simultaneously in English and French by Signal/McClelland & Stewart (a division of Penguin Random House Canada) and Les Éditions La Presse, Ingenious is a book about hundreds of Canadian innovations that have made the world a smarter, smaller, kinder, safer, healthier, wealthier and happier place. The co-authors have worked hard to make sure this collection illustrates the range and depth of innovations that Canadians have given to the world. Ingenious categorizes these innovations by the impact they have made on our society, from the light bulb, the propeller, the electric radio and the zipper, to the life jacket, the basketball, peanut butter and Superman.

It will be streamed live online at www.thewalrus.ca/live.

The Walrus Foundation, in partnership with the Order of Canada and Canada 150, presents a national tour focusing on the future of our country and featuring 50 members of the Order of Canada and 50 youth leaders. It aims to provide Canadians with opportunities to participate and celebrate together, fostering a deeper understanding of Canada, its people, and what it means to be Canadian. The tour runs until May 31, 2017.
