Departure Parade of CAF Nijmegen Marchers

July 4, 2014

Governor General to Review Departure Parade of
Canadian Armed Forces Nijmegen Marchers

OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will review a departure parade of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members participating in the Nijmegen Marches, at the Canadian War Museum on
July 7, 2014, at 11:30 a.m.

A contingent of over 200 CAF members will take part in the 98th International Four Days Marches Nijmegen, which will take place in the Netherlands from July 15 to 18, 2014.

About the Nijmegen Marches
Canadian military contingents have participated in the Nijmegen Marches, a prestigious long-distance marching event held in the Netherlands, since 1952. While overseas, traditional ceremonies at the Vimy Ridge Memorial, Langemark German War Cemetery, Essex Farm Cemetery, and the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing will provide opportunities for CAF members to commemorate Canada’s legacy in Europe during the First World War. An additional ceremony will take place on the third day of the march at the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, commemorating fallen Canadians from the Second World War.
