Governor General to Unveil Cornerstone of New Site for the Royal Canadian Military Institute
OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will unveil the cornerstone for a new building housing the Royal Canadian Military Institute (RCMI), during a military ceremony that will take place at 426 University Avenue, in Toronto, on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 4 p.m.
As patron of the organization, His Excellency will inspect a guard of honour and address RCMI members and military regiments, before unveiling the cornerstone of RCMI’s new site, which is scheduled to open in 2013.
Governors General have a long-standing tradition with the RCMI: Lord Stanley accepted patronage in 1890; Lord Grey laid the first cornerstone of the RCMI headquarters in 1907; and The Duke of Connaught laid the cornerstone for the renovation of the building in 1912.
