Governor General to Unveil Two Canada Post Stamps to Commemorate the Royal Wedding
OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, along with Deepak Chopra, President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Post, will unveil two postage stamps to commemorate the upcoming Royal Wedding of His Royal Highness Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton, during a ceremony at Rideau Hall on Friday, April 15, 2011, at 10 a.m.
This stamp issue continues Canada Post’s long history of commemorating royal events and milestones with stamps, including weddings, coronations and birthdays. However, this will mark the first time in over 60 years that Canada Post has issued a stamp to mark a royal wedding: the last such stamp was issued in 1948 in honour of Princess Elizabeth’s (the future Queen Elizabeth II) 1947 marriage to Philip Mountbatten.
