Visit to Nova Scotia - Day 3

Back to Photo Gallery
Upon his arrival in Pubnico, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, met with Mr. Aldric d’Entremont, Warden of the Municipality of the District of Argyle.
The courtesy call took place at the Village historique acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse where His Excellency was greeted by youth from the community.
Following the courtesy call with Mr. Aldric d'Entremont (right), His Excellency, joined by Mr. Roger d’Entremont, Executive Director of the Village historique acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse (left), visited the historic site.
The Village historique acadien showcases the life, culture and work of the Acadians in the early 1900s.
The Governor General also met with volunteers from the Musée des Acadiens des Pubnicos et Centre de recherche. He discussed the museum's vocation with Bernice d'Entremont.
The museum volunteers administer the artifacts, documents and literature dating back to the 1700’s that depict the history of Acadian ancestors. A hand made quilt was shown to His Excellency.
His Excellency also meet with residents of Pubnico and the District of Argyle during a community gathering in honour of his visit.
Mr. Aldric d’Entremont, Warden of the Municipality of the District of Argyle, delivered welcoming remarks.
The Governor General delivered remarks to community members and thanked them for their warm welcome.
On this occasion, His Excellency presented the Caring Canadian Award to members of the Pubnico and the District of Argyle.
Acadian cultural performances by local artists were performed.
His Excellency then returned to Halifax to attend a Caring Canadian Award Ceremony
hosted by Brigadier-General the Honourable J.J. Grant, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, at Government House.
Created in 1995, the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award recognizes living Canadians and permanent residents who have made a significant, sustained, unpaid contribution to their community, in Canada or abroad.
Often working behind the scenes, these individuals volunteer their time and efforts to help their fellow citizens. The award also brings to light the example set by volunteers, whose compassion and engagement are a part of our Canadian character.
