State Visit to Trinidad and Tobago - Day 1

Their Excellencies met with His Excellency George Maxwell Richards, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
An expanded meeting with the Canadian delegation followed the courtesy call between the Governor General and the President.
This year marks 50 years of bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as 50 years of independence for Trinidad and Tobago. The Governor General presented a 50th anniversary commemorative coin to the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
Their Excellencies met meet with the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. An expanded meeting with the Canadian delegation followed.
The Governor General presented the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, with a 50th anniversary commemorative coin.
Following the meeting, the signature of a Technical Framework Arrangement with Trinidad and Tobago took place with the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs).
In honour of Their Excellencies’ State visit to the country, the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, hosted an official luncheon.
The Governor General delivered remarks on this occasion.

...and offered a toast!
Government officials, civil society, academics and prominent business people were invited to the luncheon.
The Governor General and the Prime Minister presented the commemorative coin marking 50 years of bilateral relations between our two countries to the winner of the commemorative coin logo competition.
The event was colorful!
His Excellency, accompanied by his spouse, participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at St. James Commonwealth Military Cemetery.
The Canadian delegation also attended the ceremony.
The Governor General laid a wreath to pay respects, on behalf of all Canadians, to the Canadian servicemen who paid the ultimate sacrifice, serving and protecting their country during the Second World War.
The event was solemn.
St. James Commonwealth Military Cemetery is located in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
Many Trinidad and Tobago soldiers took part in the event.
