Visit to Mexico - Day 2

Back to Photo Gallery
Their Excellencies arrived at the Presidential Palace to attend the inaugural speech delivered by His Excellency Enrique Peña Nieto, the new president of the United Mexican States. They were accompanied by The Honourable Diane Ablonczy,
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), and Ms. Sara Hradecky, Ambassador of Canada to Mexican United States.
This address was the most important event on the President's inauguration day.
His Excellency Peña Nieto is the 57th president of the United Mexican States.
Their Excellencies attendance showed Canada's support for the new administration taking office.
On the eve of his departure for the visit to Mexico, the Governor General had met with the new president at Rideau Hall, in Ottawa.
Following the inauguration, Their Excellencies also represented Canada at a state luncheon hosted by the new president, at Chapultepec Castle.
During the State luncheon, the Governor General was sitting right next to the new President.
During this working visit, the Governor General is promoting Canada’s engagement in the Americas and our interests in Mexico in order to further co-operation in areas such as innovation, technology, education and local development.
The state luncheon given by new President Enrique Peña Nieto took place at the Castillo de Chapultepec (Castle of Chapultepec), in Mexico City.
