Visit the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) site and follow these instructions:
At the bottom of the page, you will find targeted jobs. Under Student guide-interpreter, Residence of the Governor General at Rideau Hall, click on the icon Learn more.
Read the job description and then click on Apply now.
Log into your account. If you have forgotten the email address or password associated with your account, click on Find your account. If you have never applied to FSWEP, click on Create an account.
Read the terms and conditions regarding full disclosure and accuracy of your application, then click on I confirm.
To complete your application, provide the required information under Education and Interests, Your Information and Application Review.
Education and Interests
Student Status/Education Level/Last Academic Term
To be eligible for a position as a student guide-interpreter for summer 2018, you must be registered full-time in an undergraduate program for the winter 2018 term and plan to return to full-time university studies in the fall 2018 term.
Specify the school you are attending for the winter 2018 term and your areas of study. All areas of study are accepted.
Type of Work
Select Heritage / Parks / Client service.
You must select Ottawa (Ontario). Please take note that candidates are responsible for their own travel expenses incurred to attend an interview. No relocation expenses will be reimbursed if a successful candidate moves as the result of an offer of student employment. The hired students must pay for their own accommodations and other living expenses while in the Ottawa area.
Availability to Work
You must be available to work full-time from April 30 to September 3, 2018.
Please answer both questions with yes or no. By answering yes, you confirm that you are able to offer guided tours and answer complex questions in both official languages.
You must answer all mandatory questions.
To be eligible for a position as student a guide-interpreter, you must be a Canadian citizen.
If you want to be considered for a position as a student guide-interpreter, you must answer this question. We are looking for bilingual candidates with an advanced level of proficiency, equivalent to Oral Proficiency in the Second Official Language - level C. If you meet this criteria, select Bilingual – English and French.

How are candidates selected?
Candidates are randomly selected from among those candidates who have submitted their application online by January 24, 2018, and who meet all of the selection criteria. It is therefore possible that your application will not be forwarded to us, even if you meet all of the selection criteria.
How will I know whether my application has been referred?
You will receive an email from a hiring manager at the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General (OSGG). Upon receipt of the email, candidates will have to complete a questionnaire and return it within the stated timeframe to move forward in the process.
How will candidates be assessed?
Candidates will be assessed during a group interview session, during which general knowledge, skills and personal suitability will be assessed. The ability to communicate in both official languages will also be assessed before and/or during this interview.
