Presentation of Letters of Credence at Rideau Hall

OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will receive the letters of credence of ten new heads of mission during two ceremonies on Monday, November 21, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., at Rideau Hall. 

Morning ceremony (10:30 a.m.)

His Excellency Edgar Ferman Palacios Bermúdez
Ambassador-designate of the Republic of El Salvador

His Excellency Carlos Humberto Jiménez Licona
Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Guatemala

His Excellency Jamal Abdullah Yahya Al-Sallal
Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Yemen

His Excellency Kyaw Myo Htut
Ambassador-designate of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar

Her Excellency Shinkai Karokhail
Ambassador-designate of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan 

Afternoon ceremony (2 p.m.)

His Excellency Mohamed Lemine El Haycen
Ambassador-designate of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania

His Excellency Pierre Clive Agius
High Commissioner-designate of the Republic of Malta

His Excellency Carlos dos Santos
High Commissioner-designate of the Republic of Mozambique

His Excellency Meret Bayramovich Orazov
Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Turkmenistan

Her Excellency Sylvie Lucas
Ambassador-designate of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

Upon their arrival in Canada, and before they can carry out their duties as heads of mission, new ambassadors, as well as new high commissioners of countries for which Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is not head of State, must be officially welcomed by the governor general of Canada. High commissioners representing countries for which The Queen is the head of State are formally introduced to the prime minister of Canada.

Letters of credence are the official documents by which new heads of diplomatic missions are presented by their head of State as their official representative. Currently, there are more than 170 heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Canada.

Members of the media wishing to cover the ceremony are asked to confirm their attendance in advance with the Rideau Hall Press Office, and should arrive at the
Princess Anne Entrance 15 minutes before the ceremony.
