It’s the end of the school year!

June 9, 2014

It’s the end of the school year!

Dear teachers and educators,

The end of the school year is the perfect time to review the projects we have completed and to celebrate our students’ achievements.

June is also when the Governor General’s Academic Medals for 2013–2014 will begin to be awarded. Did you know that this medal is one of the oldest honours in Canada? The Academic Medals were created in 1873 by Lord Dufferin, governor general of Canada from 1872 to 1878. Each year, participating educational institutions present the medals to the students who graduate with the highest average. We would like to congratulate the graduate at your school who was awarded the medal this year. If your institution does not yet take part in the program, please visit our website to learn more.

We would also like your opinion on our educational resources so we can better meet your needs in terms of teaching Canada’s parliamentary system and, in particular, the governor general’s role. We invite you to send us any questions you may have, and to share your ideas and comments at guide@gg.ca. We look forward to hearing from you!

Finally, if you are visiting the Ottawa region this summer, come to Rideau Hall and take part in our marvelous summer program! If you are in the City of Québec, discover a unique historical building by taking a tour of the governor general’s residence at La Citadelle.

We look forward to sharing our latest projects with you this fall. In the meantime, have a wonderful, sun-filled summer vacation!
