Governor General to Visit a Local Food Bank
OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will visit La Manne de l’île Food Bank, on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. The local food bank is located at 119 de Carillon Street, in Gatineau, Quebec.
This visit follows Their Excellencies’ participation in La grande guignolée des médias, which was held last week, on International Volunteer Day. La Manne de l’île was one of the local charities that benefited from funds and non-perishable food items collected on that day. On this occasion, His Excellency will tour the facility, meet with volunteers and assemble food baskets with Miss Roxanne Desmarais, a volunteer at the food bank. Miss Desmarais is also a recipient of both the Caring Canadian Award and the Diamond Jubilee Medal. The food baskets are distributed monthly to local citizens in need.
“I look forward to speaking with and thanking the volunteers at La Manne de l’île for the great work they do to help their neighbours,” said His Excellency. “Their selflessness is a testament to the fact that everyone has a something to give, be it time, talent or money. With the holiday season fast approaching, it is important to recognize that many people in our communities are in need of help and that a simple giving moment can make all the difference in their lives.”
