Governor General to Attend the
Sommet sur la culture philanthropique in City of Québec
OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will deliver an address at the Sommet sur la culture philanthropique [Philanthropic Culture Summit] on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. The Institut Mallet will host this important event, which will take place at Desjardins Hall at Université Laval, on November 12 and 13.
At the breakfast meeting at 8 a.m., His Excellency will share his vision of philanthropy in Canada and talk about the importance of giving, to managers, administrators, practitioners and people actively involved in a variety of philanthropic culture practices. He will then take questions from participants. The event will be live on www.institutmallet.org/sommet.
In his installation speech, His Excellency identified three pillars he would focus on during his mandate. One of them consists in encouraging philanthropy and volunteering. Similarly, on November 4, 2013, he launched My Giving Moment, a national multimedia campaign to encourage Canadians to think about what they have to give and then act upon those opportunities. The campaign, inspired by His Excellency, is part of an ongoing effort to promote giving among Canadians and build a smarter, more caring nation.
