The Governor General to Participate
in the 2012 Canada Army Run

OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will participate in the 2012 Canada Army Run, on Sunday, September 23, 2012. The run will start on Elgin Street, at the corner of Laurier Avenue, in Ottawa.

At approximately 7:25 a.m., His Excellency will address thousands of participants competing in the five-kilometre run and then at 8 a.m., he will join them at the start line:

“I’m proud to take part in the Army Run alongside other Canadians who are supporting a worthy cause. As commander-in-chief, I believe it is important for me to take every opportunity to support military personnel and their families,” said His Excellency.

In addition to supporting the Canadian Forces and their families, His Excellency is also very passionate about fitness. He believes that the physical and mental health benefits gained through being active lead to a better, happier and healthier lifestyle.
