International Youth Day

August 12, 2012

Message from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston,
Governor General of Canada, on the Occasion of International Youth Day

OTTAWA— I am delighted to extend my warmest greetings to all Canadians taking part in the celebrations marking International Youth Day.

The theme the United Nations has chosen this year, “Building a better world by partnering with youth,” fits perfectly in line with the vision of a smarter, more caring nation that I hold so dear.

During my visits across Canada, I have had the privilege of meeting exceptional young people from different background. One of the impressive characteristics they all have in common is a shared desire to improve the environment in which they live. Young people are true drivers of change in all areas of society.

I admire this new generation of leaders for the remarkable daring, critical thinking and openness they all show in projects that will help determine our future.

I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate all the young people around the world who dedicate their time and efforts for the good of all humanity.

David Johnston
