The Governor General of Canada Invested in
The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem
OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, was invested today as a Knight of Justice in the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem and was installed as Prior of the Priory of Canada, in the presence of the Lord Prior of the Order, Professor Anthony Mellows. The ceremony took place in the Senate Chamber, in Ottawa.
On this occasion, the Governor General also presided over the investiture of members of the Order and presented the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal to volunteers whose contributions support the work of St. John.
About the Order of St. John
Established in 1888 by Queen Victoria, the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem is a working order of charitably minded men and women whose philanthropy is expressed principally through its two foundations, the St. John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem and St. John Ambulance. The Order was brought into the Canadian Honours System in 1990.
