Governor General to Honour Members of the Association des scouts du Canada and Friends of Scouting

 

OTTAWA — His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will recognize members of the Association des scouts du Canada and friends of scouting, during a ceremony at Rideau Hall, on Friday, April 8, 2011, at 2:00 p.m.

As chief scout of the Association des scouts du Canada, the Governor General will present decorations to four groups of young people, aged 12 to 17. He will also recognize 39 adult volunteers and benefactors who have made a significant contribution to the development of Canadian Francophone Scouting.

Founded in 1961, the Association des scouts du Canada counts more than 18 000 French-speaking youths and adults as members. It offers young Canadians a unique program designed to encourage them to become responsible and self-sufficient, productive members of society. This program also allows members to express their faith and develop their culture openly, in a manner respectful to others.
