Governor General to Participate in Remembrance Day events in Ottawa

OTTAWA—Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will participate in the following Remembrance Day events, on Thursday, November 11, 2010:

11 a.m.
National Remembrance Day Ceremony
Their Excellencies will attend the National Remembrance Day Ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa.
National War Memorial, Ottawa, Ontario

12:30 p.m.
Luncheon for the Silver Cross Mother
Their Excellencies will host a luncheon at Rideau Hall to pay tribute to this year’s National Silver Cross Mother, Mrs. Mabel Girouard, whose son, Chief Warrant Officer Robert Michael Girouard, was killed by a suicide car bomber while on duty near Kandahar, Afghanistan, on November 27, 2006. By attending the National Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa, she represents all Canadian mothers who have lost children in the military service to their nation.
