Message from Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, Following the Natural Disasters in Pakistan and China
OTTAWA— The natural disasters that have hit Pakistan and China recently are continuing to take their toll. The distressing images making their way to us are cause for great concern. The number of people who have been killed or injured continues to rise and thousands of families have now been affected.
We know that Canadians of Pakistani and Chinese origin are overcome with worry and grief for their relatives, loved ones and friends, who find themselves at the centre of this serious humanitarian crisis. My husband, Jean-Daniel Lafond, and I would like to offer them our sincerest condolences. The entire country is following this situation closely and we will continue to show our solidarity with the affected populations.
